About Dave

Dave Lieber is a columnist that helps people. His investigative column, The Watchdog, appears in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Before that, he wrote a Star-Telegram metro column for a dozen years. He trained at The Philadelphia Inquirer, where he was a staff writer for a decade.

Dave recently won the newspaper's Editorial Employee of the Year award and also the Katie Award from the Press Club of Dallas as the best columnist in the U.S. Southwest.

He is the founder and secretary of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists Education Foundation, which awards scholarships to top college columnists. He is the advisor to the award-winning student newspaper at Westlake Academy, called The Black Cow. In his newest project, Dave is leader of Watchdog Nation®, a consumer rights movement spreading across America.

Dave is recognized as America's first regular video columnist on the Internet. He began the experimental venture in 1997 at star-telegram.com, then called StarText.net.

He has a strong background as a volunteer. He is co-founder of one of North Texas' largest children's charities, Summer Santa, which serves thousands of children each year through a volunteer service that has no office or paid staff.

His work for Summer Santa earned him the Will Rogers Humanitarian Award. This honor goes to the U.S. newspaper columnist whose work produced positive effects on the lives of readers.

He is the author of four books. His latest, Dave Lieber’s Watchdog Nation, is a ground-breaking book that teaches you tips, tools and strategies to bite back when businesses and scammers do you wrong. The book won two national book awards for social change in 2009 and was named one of the top 10 consumer books of the year.

In addition, his popular The Dog of My Nightmares: Stories by Texas Columnist Dave Lieber, is now in its fourth printing. With more than 15,000 copies sold, the publisher has released The Dog of My Nightmares as a CD audio book version, too.
