The Reality of Dave Lieber
The Yankee Cowboy

About Yankee Cowboy

Since Dave Lieber, The Yankee Cowboy, arrived in the Lone Star State more than a dozen years ago as a nouveau Texan, he has taken Texas and turned it on its head. (Well, actually, the Lone Star State has turned Dave on his head; but Dave, a native New Yorker confused in his new homeland, can't tell the difference.)

Dave came to this place as a liberal divorced, Jewish Democrat from the Upper West Side of Manhattan. You can imagine the warm welcome he received in a place known for its preponderance of native Texans who are overwhelmingly Baptist, conservative Republicans and family-oriented. Well, from such great conflicts comes great comedy.

But Dave is still not sure why people are laughing AT him.

Dave battled through it. As a columnist for the respected Fort Worth Star-Telegram, he took a crash course in Texana. He visited the Alamo. He learned to pledge allegiance to the sacred Texas flag. He figured out that chicken-fried steak is really steak. He learned that when a Texas woman says, "Oh, bless your heart!" - she doesn't mean it in a complimentary way. And he took the crash part of the crash course a little too seriously when he started riding bulls in rodeos!

The Press Club of Dallas has named Dave the best columnist in the American Southwest. He won the top writing award from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. He was even named the Will Rogers Humanitarian of the Year as the American newspaper columnist who has done the most positive work on behalf of his community.

He is the author of four books. His latest, Dave Lieber’s Watchdog Nation, won the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Award for Social Change. His ground-breaking book teaches you tips, tools and strategies to bite back when businesses and scammers do you wrong. In addition, his popular The Dog of My Nightmares: Stories by Texas Columnist Dave Lieber, is now in its fourth printing. With more than 15,000 copies sold, the publisher has released The Dog of My Nightmares as a CD audio book version.

But no matter how you cut it, Dave is and always will be considered a durn Yankee deep in the heart of Texas.
